Universal 91W – Two Dürr Ecoclean cleaning systems for Continental AG

The Universal 91 W stands for high level cleaning.

Dürr Ecoclean has delivered two Universal 91W systems to Continental AG at Trutnov in the Czech Republic. Designed especially for high cleaning efficiency, the machines were recently put into service for cleaning components for petrol and diesel injection systems.

The two Universal 91W systems are used to remove machining chips and oil residue from components such as pump casings, control discs or cylinders prior to final assembly. Even smallest particles may cause functional impairment, so demands to minimize residual foreign matter on part surfaces are very exacting. The Universal 91W wins extra points here because of its modular design which allows it to be easily adapted to specific customer needs.

Continental opted for the Universal 91W single chamber system and a fully automatic cleaning process involving three wet stages plus hot air and vacuum drying. All cleaning steps are based on the immersion technique using aqueous media. In addition to the cleaning systems, Dürr Ecoclean also supplied the interconnecting conveyor equipment. A sophisticated design and matching process technology provide a consistent high-quality cleaning result. One particular focus was placed on the avoidance of dirt deposits within the system, as well as on the selection of appropriate filter equipment.

At the start of the process the parts are conveyed on carrier frames into the vacuum- proof cleaning chamber, where they are washed in an aqueous medium. Depending on the part type, an optional injection flood washing step can be carried out. A second process stage then follows in the form of an ultrasonic re-wash cycle. Finally, the parts are rinsed off with a high-quality medium. Complete drying of the parts is accomplished in the same chamber, initially with hot air and then by application of vacuum. A roller conveyor then moves the parts to the final assembly line. To prevent re-contamination of the parts, the conveyor equipment is fully enclosed and slightly pressurized. The actual final assembly takes place under clean room conditions.
