Dürr Ecoclean’s representation RoTec Polska launches new test centre
Determining the best cleaning process and medium by testing under near production conditions
Tychy, August 2015 – With its new test centre in Tychy, Dürr Ecoclean’s representation RoTec Polska responds to growing demand for testing facilities experienced by users in Poland. This in part reflects the legal requirement to substitute trichloroethylene as a cleaning media by April 2016. Accordingly, the test centre is equipped with a system for conducting cleaning trials with polar solvents and aqueous media. It allows users to test and to validate alternatives under near production conditions at no cost.
Trichloroethylene (TRI) is used specifically for precision parts cleaning in application fields such as the aerospace and automotive, medical equipment, optical and general industries. However, this solvent has been classified as a 'substance of very high concern' (SVHC) under REACH, and its approval for use in industrial part cleaning ceases on April 21, 2016. Users are thus facing the challenge to replace TRI with a suitable cleaning medium or process. The optimum alternative in each given case is best determined by carrying out cleaning trials under near production conditions. This also applies where cleaning processes need to be adapted or redesigned to meet more exacting cleanliness specifications, or to handle an altered range of parts.
Cleaning trials and extensive support
Addressing these needs, RoTec Polska has set up a new test centre in Tychy with associated technical support and service facilities. Located centrally in Tychy, the site is within easy reach of customers across Poland. The local equipment pool and its direct integration with testing systems in place at Dürr Ecoclean in Filderstadt/Germany enables RoTec Polska to give extensive, technology-independent advice and support to users when it comes to selecting the optimum cleaning process.
For trials with wet chemical cleaning processes, which prove effective and cost-efficient in many industrial metalworking and machining applications, diverse options are available. To this end, the Test Centre is equipped with a Compact 80P designed for use with polar solvents. Based on modified alcohols, these cleaning media are capable of dissolving both greasy and aqueous substances. They can thus remove polar and non-polar contaminants alike. Cleaning tests with aqueous media can be performed in an EcoCCube. This very compact machine has been developed for qualitatively effective, aqueous spray cleaning of machined and non-machined parts with diverse geometries.
Apart from the above, trials can also be carried out with cleaning machines of the EcoCCore series for solvent-based processes. These units can be easily converted from non-halogenated hydrocarbons to modified alcohols and vice versa, which makes them future-proof against changing requirements. For additional tests with aqueous media – available in neutral, alkaline and acidic form – there are latest-generation machines such as the EcoCWave. Furthermore, cleaning trials can be run with multi-stage aqueous ultra-fine cleaning machines from Dürr Ecoclean.
RoTec Polska conducts the cleaning trials at no cost, using authentic contaminated parts off the customer's production line. This ensures that equipment technology, process engineering and parameters will be perfectly adapted to the specific task – regardless of whether the application requires simple degreasing or the removal of particulate/film-type contaminants to a very exacting standard.
